You should also probably try Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn. If you like that, try his others: Warbreaker and Elantris.
He is definitely an author to read if you enjoy fantasy.

I find Hobb's works to be overtly average. There are moments here and there of very high quality storytelling, but I find the writing to be rather melodramatic, the story to be rather underwhelming. I've read the first series and parts of the third. I plan try the Liveship series this spring sometime.
I do realize that her stories aren't groundbreaking, but her characters are outstanding.
Funnily enough, I actually liked the Liveship series the least of the three trilogies. I did like it, but found the others better (especially the Tawny Man Trilogy). It's different in a lot of ways, different part of the world than the other two, as well as having multiple viewpoints compared to the first-person storytelling of the other books.
Perhaps that means you have a better chance of enjoying it though, who knows?
Not everyone can like everything, and Hobb just isn't for me is seems.
