So yeah. I see what you mean and I agree with most of it, but I'd still probably recommend it to my friends that can read fast and move on without wasting too much time on it. ;)


I actually "read" Fall of Hyperion via Audiobook, which means I couldn't read fast and skim over the more boring parts. Plus the narrator has an extremely emotional, melodramatic voice. Perhaps I'd have enjoyed it better as a real read, it's just hard to find time these days. Audiobooks in the car are a good way to fit some books into the schedule.

Anyway, thanks for posting impressions. Glad to see you agree with me, because lately, I haven't gotten much backup when it comes to my book positions. :P


In my experience, a well done audiobook can be a good thing, to the point that if I ever read the book that I've heard done well, I read it it the narrator's voice.

But an adequate audiobook always comes off as poor or annoying. Maybe that's not how it is for you, but listening to someone being melodramatic about a story would really irritate me.

And just to be clear, I didn't skip any passages. It bugs me to do that, even if I can pretty well tell that the passage is irrelevant/tangential. I just recommend books differently to my friends that read faster than my friends who take more time. I can recommend a pretty good to fair book to my fast friends, because if they really hate it, they only waste a few days. ;)
