It has nothing to do with buying it or not buying it.

I just really don't like reading books except on my Kindle. It's just...fantastic. I have some printed books that I mean to read and I picked one up the other day and I was just like, ugh. I may still get it in printed form and read it for the club. We'll see.
I love BPL. I go online and find the books I want and they call me when they're ready to be picked up and I go get them at the main circulation desk. Plus, the main branch at Copley is just beautiful. Well, the original part is. The hideous tumor on the Exeter Street end that was grown, uh, added in the late 60's is a sorry thing. But, the Dartmouth Street/Copley Square end? Beautiful. I love the architecture. I can't believe you haven't been there. If nothing else, you have to go to the courtyard this spring when the weather is nicer and something is green there. It's a great place to sit and read. Go!
On another note, how good is the BPL? I assume it's pretty fantastic but haven't gotten to check it out.

So...what is the decision on the main book club?

There are two official book clubs.

By which I mean to say that your order should stand.

We're happy with that...I was trying to make sure we didn't fracture things too much.

So are we a go for Doctor Zhivago for March 15?

I was considering reading it, too.

Out of curiosity, why not the library?

Are you guys going to recommend a particular translation of each book for us non-Russophones?

Uh...I hadn't thought about that. I will try to find out which translations are better.

I would recommend the Max Hayward/Manya Harari translation.

Good thing that translation is the main one available in the US (the tradeback form)

Interesting. I have a Hayward/Harari translation

I have seen a lot of very irresponsible things said about this novel.

No, actually the plot in the movie and plot in the book are quite different.

Hmmm. Since the majority are reading it in English, I suppose I should too.

Rebekah says there's a good reason for it to be in December. So I'll just go with the plan. *NM*

Actually, I'm not sure what the reasoning would be, other than to space things out.
