Overall, the books were OK. They were light and quick reads. They are entertaining enough to read through all 2800 pages in about four days.
The romance element of these is pretty blah.
Bella is a doormat for most of the story.
Book four is the best by far! Until 60% of the way through when Meyer wimps out and then the book becomes the worst.
I'm happy that so many people that would not be reading otherwise have picked up a book and found something that interests them. I just wish that they would have been better.

And with all the rest of this too, really. It's so syrupy that you really can't call the romance any good, or compare the books to the works Meyer claims as inspiration (like Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice).
As I don't believe we've actually had a review of this yet... Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series.

I think the series is codswallop...and that it DID have potential

As I said, the second book is better in some regards thanks to that.

Well, there are a few books she explicitly references and cites as inspiration.

Re: I think it gets labelled antifeminist because, well, it's Bella, the heroine, and she's so young

Yeah. It's one of those things that sound worse out of context than they are in the book itself...

I read a lot of PNR (paranormal romance for you book snobs out there) and thus have read these too.
