More than fair. Aemon Send a noteboard - 03/09/2009 11:39:29 PM
You, along with the open-minded attempt I made at using an eBook reader, shifted my opinion from "OMG NO WAY NOT EVER" to "eventually, but not now." Which I expect is where it will stay for a few years, barring any huge technological/financial breakthroughs.

I certainly recognize that I'm something of an early adopter. For now, e-ink screens remain expensive, pricing and general availability of ebooks is still up in the air, and so on. I don't necessarily think now is the time for mass adoption; I mainly argue the viability (and, yes, superiority) of the ebook model, and e-reader technology.

As far as major breakthroughs, they've recently come out with color e-ink screens. I'm not sure if they've been put into dedicated e-readers yet, but they're in a few japanese mp3 players, and so on. That's about the biggest breakthrough we're likely to get for a while.

I undoubtedly like paper more than you, but I see no reason I can't use both. As I wrote to Sprite above, it's not necessarily one or the other.

Nope, I agree. I didn't get rid of my fairly substantial book library when I bought my e-reader, and don't plan to. I do enjoy reading on the e-book reader more though, and use that for general purpose stuff. Books are cool to have, collect, loan, etc, but I've definitely come to prefer the reader.
