here's my experience - i had a kindle for a year before i ever used it. but, these days, i really do love it, and i use it a lot more than i would have thought. i'm a hardcore own-the-physical-ook type of person. a big moment of realization for me was when i got neal stephenson's anathem (yeah, the hardcover) and thought "crap, this book is going to break my wrists..." i read it through on the physical hard copy once, then i bought it on the kindle (ah, yes, i bought it twice!) and i've read it three more times since then... which i would not have done had i had to hold the giant hardcover every time. so it's not like i'm not going to buy books, of course, because i love books! i'll just get ebooks, too sometimes...
also, i wouldn't have started reading naomi novik's work without the kindle, which offered the first book in her series for free. so that's good for her work and for me, you know? the cool thing is, having a kindle made it easy to buy all of the series, which i quickly got addicted to, even though i was in israel. it's great for when you're on a trip and run out of physical books, or when you don't want to take 20 books with you. i read about a book a day, so taking enough books to last 2-3 weeks usually meant i had to take a whole big suitcase. not anymore! :-)

Ideally, universities will start renting out eTextbook readers, or something. *NM*

That'd be great. My school rents out standard ebook readers now, so it won't be long. *NM*
