That would explain why I didn't see the anti-Byzantine parts you were referring to. My version was abridged to focus only on the eastern empire. It also doesn't have any of the footnotes. Could also explain why it seemed to make strange jumps that didn't really make sense. I guess that will teach me to read the forward from now on. Someone gave it to me as a gift and I never even thought to check and see if it was complete.
If I get myself the Kindle I was planning to get for my birthday it looks like I can get the complete set for only a buck. I doubt I will bother finishing reading the abridged version, what would be the point?
