Dragon's Egg, Downbelow Station, Finity's End, Voyage from Yesteryear, Thrice Upon a Time (although some of the base science assumptions have since been found to be wrong) and Inherit the Stars. Those are by, respectively, Robert L. Forward, C.J. Cherryh (x2) and James P. Hogan (x3).
Given your enjoyment of alien culture you might also want to look into the Mri series (Kesrith, Shon'Jir and Kutath), The Pride of Chanur series - in which there is only a single human and all the main characters are aliens and Cuckoo's Egg. All of the above by C.J. Cherryh.
