then I'd seriously consider limited editions of some of my favourite works. Sadly I'm not and such things are beyond me. However, I can certainly see the desire to own them. They are (usually) better quality than the ordinary hard covers and contain interesting extras that someone with a love of the author/book can't help but desire to have. I've personally been weak and bought the commemorative editions of Howard's Conan stories and Lovecraft's work but they weren't too pricey, and it was nice to get comprehensive collections of their stories in a single volume.
But, yes, if I had the disposable income then I'd very seriously consider even the pricier limited editions of certain books from particular authors. And give it a few years and if you are regretting the purchase then the chances are that you'll be able to make a profit on resale, especially for really limited edition books by well loved authors.
