Best place to start?

That would be the best place to start dipping you toes in with Brandon. It is a very good book but you can tell he hadn't found his stride yet. But still, a book you should really read.

Then you should read his Mistborn trilogy. This is simply an awesome series and what he is best known for right now. Go out and buy all three books because its a solid investment.

If you don't want to dive into the trilogy right away, then try his other solo book, Warbreaker. This is probably his best work, except for maybe Gathering Storm (but that is really RJ's work). It is an amazing novel. He has definitely found his stride now and you can see the difference between this book and Elantris.

when you see only the darkness, know the light will soon return
