Alright, I'm about half way through Dust of Dreams, and it struck me that I haven't been able to figure out the overall story of the Malazan series. Maybe it's just me, and I'm thinking there's something more complex going on than there really is, but could someone help me out on this? Is it just the story of Laseen's reign as Empress?

based on the books until Toll the Hounds, it seemed to me the overall story had to do mostly with the fight against the Crippled God - the fact that the last book is named "The Crippled God" would seem to confirm that theory. But if he doesn't play an important role in DoD, I can see why you'd wonder...
