Probably. It just seemed like a dangerous thing to do, as he seemed to be saying that if the numbers were wrong he wouldn't work with them.
I think he was ruling out being the junior partner if the numbers were wrong - which makes sense since the party has proportional representation as a key policy and this would show commitment to it. Even so, I wouldn't rule out a deal being reached this attitude just makes very sure it will be on Lib Dem rather than New Labour terms.
