Again, looking back it seems a bit of a stretch to strongly associate the ad with the Gunpowder Plot, but there are superficial reasons to do so. The main reason I'm less inclined to see it that way is because I think it would be counterproductive and the RGA knows it, but being UNABLE to see a connection seems less about not worshipping Europe than lacking any awareness of things outside the US. We're not the whole world, much as reminders of that bothers a lot of Republicans.
