I don't know much about Portillo. People mention him a lot, but I'm never sure why.


He went from being seen as a thoroughly nasty piece of work on the right of the tory party, and willing to do whatever it took to win, to being out of politics and a very human person... via, as he described it, having to eat shit in public in the '97 election (a minister losing a safe seat is always going to humiliate them). Which he took well and seems to see the funny side of it.
