There are computer experts who don't know even how to do the same thing on a different OS. Unless you're going to take the time to learn everything about your computer, most people cannot fix every problem. However, most people can try to fix every problem, fail, and the computer person they do take it to has twice the work and may not even be able to fix the system, depending on what the owner did.

If you don't know how to do it, then don't . It really doesn't need to be more complex than that. If you're lucky, or happened to find a good explanation on line, then you might be okay. If you're not lucky, then you can majorly fuck up your computer, all because you were too proud or too much of a penny pinch to go have someone take care of the problem while it was small.
