I've often thought that Jerusalem should be an a-political city, but too many Jews would never stand for that. It's the central hub of two major religions and an important spoke of a third (I think it would be fair to say that Mecca is the hub of Islam). It's critically important to all the Judeo-Christian-Islamic faiths and should be shared.
Maybe if they could learn to share it, they could learn to stop killing each other.
