Lots of people here don't seem to realize that if the government pays for something, that's really them paying for it through their taxes. It's like the whole "university education should be free" thing, when the reality of the matter is that the ultra-low university fees are already, to quote a description someone once made, "a transfer of wealth from the entire society to the soon-to-be-richest members of society".


There are plenty of educations that are not likely to make people rich at all. :D

Also, a free system might inspire those less fortunate to actually do the studying thing. It has been my experience here that many people would not pay for the education due to their socioeconomic background, but have the capacity to manage an education once they take the leap.

The matter is not a simple one.
