People have been creating life for millions of years, scientists too (though maybe at a lesser rate).

This is an impressive scientific feat, but it's something to be expected. We've known for a long time what DNA does, how it works and recently what genes indicate what. It was only a matter of time before we were able to synthesize "life."

That said, this isn't as incredible an achievement as some people like to think it is. It's not as if we replaced anything that god was supposed to have privileged access to. We are only taking greater control in a process which we've undergone for millions of years.
