You're telling people because at times like this you need to know that people love you and care about you. It's a good thing and it's what friends, even virtual friends, are for.

Don't worry about work. If they ask, just say you had a medical emergency. They don't need to know more than that and they really shouldn't ask past that.

You can tell them the details later, if you want to, or not. Honestly it's none of their business unless you're close to any of them.

Amy and I went through this and it's very very hard. I'd get advice from your doctor on whether to wait or not, but medical aside, I'd suggest some waiting and time to grieve before going again right away.
