How is the government bailing them out? True, they are spending money but the bills are being forwarded to BP as far as I know.
For the cleanup yes, What about economic damages (short term and long term)? What about the environmental damages (short term and long term)? What about the punitive damages? All of these are big questions marks at this point. Considering it will be decided in the courts, and BP, Transocean, and Haliburton are already lawyering up. Make no mistake, the American taxpayer is going to be paying, the big question is how much.
I fully expect the Oil Co.'s to wriggle out of most of their liabilities. Exxon was certainly able to. I think the judgment against them ended up only being about $500M, reduced from $5B (10%).
But I'm at least going to wait and see
