I didn't expect it to go this well. ironclad Send a noteboard - 13/06/2010 09:57:28 PM
sure Australia did make them look good for most of it, but even still the Germans played some nice football. Lahm was progressive, that Uzil looked clever. Too soon to tout them for winners, but i wouldn't bet against them.

Özil, yeah :)

Australia though will now struggle to come out of the group stages. Losing Cahill is a major blow, a horrible decision from the ref. Neil and Moore look slooooow and credit to them for still getting forward in towards the end there's not much guile to their play, not enough creativity going forward.

I still cheer for them to come in second, but it'll be hard.

Maybe a german fan can answer me this, but why isn't podolski playing upfront? is it a lack of options of the wing? sure they played really well and i've seen him play a lot on the left, but with such a good goalscoring record for germany i thought they'd make more of him, klose seems a bit past it, despite getting the goal.

yeah, we had quite a few injuries in the last weeks and ran out of wings. Poldi has been known to play that role rather decently, though.

Klose had a terrible season for Bayern, but Löw believes in him, and his performance today shows that a World Cup is a whole different issue. I'd still start with Cacau, who is in top form, though.

Game winner for me was Müller, a 20 year old newcomer who played a fantastic season and is far from finished.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.
