But yes, it is a stretch... I think it is an attempt to say they think it is bigotry but don't know what the correct form of bigotry it is - hating on people for where they are born.
Not all the people in England, England and Scotland have by far the oldest rivalry in world football, with one team being more succesful than the other, I can see both sides, for some it will mean England the nation, but for most it will mean the football team.
So for a lot of us, it's a bit weird to hear not wanting our rivals to win the world cup (also remember we share a national broadcaster who have milked the one success at the tournament to death).
Then there is resentment as the entire Match of the day and 5live team are moved en masse to SA, there is no commentators from the BBC regional teams, even though a lot of them are much better at their jobs. Every match regardless of whether it's to do with England or not, a lot of the chat is just England central.
For the neutrals Scots it can be annoying having an England love in 3 times a day when you just want to watch a game.
I don't own a shirt and i wouldn't buy one, for some they will be "racist" but the people i have spoken to don't have one, but i'm told it's been a tradition for a while to have a top like this going back decades.
Incidentally there are English shirts with a similiar message on it, but this gets no air time at all. Or the Mail posting constantly about Scottish scroungers etc etc.
I'm paying no attention to the hullaballoo, they had them up in Aberdeen and a Policeman came in and said they were racist, turns out he hadn't had a compliant just done it off his own back, some people sent him the address of the stores selling the English ones, seems nothing was followed up though. The PC was English and the shop still sells them.
Can Scottish anti-English sentiment really be described as racist?
