WTF?

European style (30-08-2009) is logical: smallest to biggest.
Chinese style (2009-08-30) is also logical: biggest to smallest.
American style (08-30-2009) is just WTF?
Someone in another forum I used to visit named the first two styles Little-Endian dating and Big-Endian dating, after the two sides in the Lilliput/Blefuscu war who were arguing about how to crack an egg. So then there's Middle-Endian for American style
.
