I mean a member of a sitting President's administration running against him/her when the next election cycle came? I mean that would look really bad in the public eye and probably throw the entire Democratic party into disarray (not that it doesn't need it).

Ted Kennedys abortive White House run was against Jimmy Carter in 1980. Which did wonders for Democratic solidarity come November, of course. ;)
