I am not going to say nay on all genetically modified plants. I guess I'm just being a little too literal here, but agriculture has been genetically modifying plants for some time. And it hasn't all been bad.
The GMO stuff I don't want are seeds with pesticides already in them, strawberries spliced with a fish gene, or switching a gene in a fish to make it grow year-round would be prohibited. BUT selective horticulture of certain fruits because of their size or flavor is ok to a certain point.
Perhaps for a better understanding of my POV you could watch two very interesting documentaries, "Dirt: the movie" and "Botany of Desire".
If monoculture is eradicated and the soil "health" is maintained, that results in significantly fewer (or complete elimination in some cases) pesticides used.
We also wouldn't use fertilizer which is detrimental to water quality. Overall agricultural pollution (via pesticides and runoff) would be greatly reduced.
