Generally, any day off work is a good 'un.... Elaine Send a noteboard - 05/07/2010 02:32:47 PM

....but I must reluctantly and unpatriotically admit that St Patrick's Day doesn't really do it for me.

I haven't been around for a while, and now I've reached that stage where it feels like I can only look and not touch, so I guess I'll just present a simple, shallow little survey here, and hopefully start posting more soon.

Good girl.

Anyway, they're all supposed to be universally beloved, but certain traditions just aren't fun at all for some of us... someone with Crohn's disease or even just a strong sense of moderation isn't going to derive much pleasure from Thanksgiving, for example.

Whereas those of us who like to eat a lot love it :D

I don't like the Fourth. Going to see a fireworks display is one thing, but when your crazy redneck neighbors set explosives off all week (beginning at eight in the morning) and don't even create pretty lights with them - well, it's stupid. Also, my puppy has never been more petrified.

Poor doggie.

2. How have you been?

I'm fine. Tired but fine. Stupid work.

3. Would you ever move (permanently) to a place you had never seen or visited before?

If there was a good reason to do so, yes. I'm not generally afraid of much.

4. How do you feel about lapsed friendships - something that can always be revived, or a sign that loyalty is missing? If the latter, how long before you call it quits on the relationship?

The former. It happens, and if you want to do something about it then you can. People are, essentially, frail and calling into questions someone's loyalty when you don't know (even if you think you do) why they haven't called is silly. There is every chance that friend is having a horrific time at the moment and does not have time or energy to devote to you.

5. Can exes ever really be friends?

Sure, in my experience. There's always the memory of what was there, but if you're adults about it there's no need for rancour. Then again, I'm very much the live and let live type.

6. What is your favorite summer food?

Sausages :D Maybe champagne.

7. Do you know how to drive a manual car? What country are you from?

Of course I do. I'm Irish.

8. What's the scariest driving experience you've ever had?

Ergh. A huge truck jacknifed in front of me on a motorway bridge once. Frightened the life out me.

9. What's the longest (most driving hours per day) road trip you've ever done?

Hmmmm. Dublin to northern France is a hike. But that's Dublin-Rosslare, then 18 hours or so on the ferry and then I think it was about four hours again in the car,

10. Do you have any books or pieces of literature you reread yearly (or according to some other sort of schedule)? What are they?

I don't have a schedule, but there are books I reread a lot.

Other news with me - am planning to set out for my new home in WA, bright and early Tuesday morning. It will be a long drive, and I don't entirely know where I'll end up. I hope it will be nice.

I'm sure it will be. Why are you going?
