Different places have different notions of personal space, even within generally 'similar' cultural boundaries. It even varies between neighbouring western European nations.

I think working in Jordan would just involve keeping an open mind, being willing to learn what works for people and what doesn't, and a willingness to apologise if you fuck up. I imagine then you'd be fine.
