It mostly sounds like he's insecure in whatever is going on with him and your X.

Oh, and if there is a future time, I would make certain to buzz. I know that you feel that everything is settled when it comes to custody and your arrangement, but I've seen these things bubble up and get ugly later. He made a fuss, so you'll have to respect that. You don't want to hear later how you were "stalking the guy's apartment", bothering your X and stuff like that.

All in all, you didn't do anything wrong, and you handled it well.
