The vast majority of taliban/al'qaeda, etc. are actually just regular people who've been coerced (by force or by money) to do the bidding of their overlords. Poverty is a huge supplier of terrorists, and if you lived in an environment where your only source of information about the world was funneled through the Taliban, your opinions might well be very different, too.
But reasons for their actions aside, fact is: I live in a Western country. I do not want people I share a language, interests, maybe even a world view with to be threatened by terror. So it's fine with me that they defend themselves. That's generally speaking. Because I am still against the war in Iraq and I am not even remotely behind most US American foreign political decisions. But what could possibly make me side with the Taliban? Nothing.
