Americans are being told by some not to worry about Islam by some but they are being told by others they need to worry. The problem for Islam is that most Americans see very little evidence to support the “don't worry about Islam” argument. They don't believe that all Muslims are terrorist or any silly thing like that but they don't understand their values and they see enough to make them worry. An overriding theme in America right is many people believe their value system is under attack and in many ways they are correct. Like when Catholics first started migrating in mass the loyalty of Muslims is suspect. In some cases there probably is some justification to that suspicion but it is probably over played in people’s mind. Of course looking back the Catholics did cause all sorts of problems like organized crime and corrupt politics.
I think a lot of people on the left underestimate the level of resentment growing especially among white Americans that they are constantly being told that they are not living up to their ideals and are not tolerant enough. They feel that they are being held to an unfair level tolerance by people they do not see as tolerant. This is not only a Muslim thing but is across a multitude of issues. The problem is that they are right.
