that she grew up in a society where faggot was an insult and spoke without thinking. Like people do when they say something is "Retarded". No, they may not have anything against retarded people, but it's what they're used to saying, hearing, etc... She probably didn't think "ahhh yah i'll call them GAY. GAY to mean they're GIRLY. that'll SHOW 'EM." She used an insult that is a common societal insult, probably without thinking about what she was saying much at all (clearly).

While this is all still a problem, it's a societal problem and pointing fingers at her and going YOU NEED TO REEVALUATE YOUR VERY BEING SERIOUSLY HERE MISSY is silly. Like you've never mocked someone else with a word based on an insulting stereotype. Blonde, retard, ass (just think of how those poor donkeys feel!! :P)...


Individuals have to think about why something is considered an insult and why they use it to make the change spread.

I didn't say she needed to reevaluate her being, but rather she needed to do some soul searching. She claims she isn't a person who says things that offend people, that she isn't homophobic, but in a moment of celebration she insults the losing team by using a patently homophobic slur.

Her professed self-image is different than what her actions show, so she needs to look inside to see what she really thinks. If she really doesn't want to be someone who offends people with her words, if she doesn't want to be a homophobe, she needs to address this issue within herself.
