Having an updated, advanced thinking library that allows access to newer technologies and innovative ways of accessing information is good. However, to assume that these methods and technologies should REPLACE, rather than SUPPLEMENT, a traditional library, is the disturbing part for me.

Books aren't an obsolete medium that "better" things have replaced. This isn't the light bulb replacing the kerosene lamp. Technologically speaking, a book is more like a live play or orchestral performance. Yes, you can experience the same content more conveniently on a DVD or a music CD, respectively. However, something is lost with that convenience, and no one would argue that live performances should be discontinued (for purposes other than recording DVDs and CDs, at least).

Removing the books from a library is like replacing Lincoln Center with a big television screen and Broadway with a DVD store.
