When he talks about his personal choices for years and then wants to reach his hand into our collective pocket, in part based on his "personal choices", his "personal choices" damn well are my business.
You, of course, may ignore again all that I say and simply repeat the phrase "personal choices, personal choices" to your heart's delight, that doesn't change the facts on the ground.
I did not ignore what you said. In fact, I said that yes, it is about personal choices. However, I also addressed the fact that you can't know beyond a shallow level what those "personal choices" are, where they came from, why they were made, and so on.
If you feel that you know him well enough to accurately blast him for his situation, then I guess I was out of line. I do not feel that you do, and I think that attacking someone for things of which you cannot possibly have comprehensive knowledge is extremely foolish and rude. If it's childish of me to speak up in such a situation, then I *really* have no problem with being seen as a child.
So. We're back to the politics of it, since what you disagree on is the appropriate governmental level of involvement. It seems possible to have this conversation without going for the jugular, but what do I know. I just work here.
