Wrong how? And also, why?

Because it's only for two people to decide who and when to get married. no one else should have a say in it, not even (especially not?) parents.
Why would a family pick but it's still up to you? And how many "Nos" do you get? Family should just stay out of their kids' love lives :)

in some aspects maybe, in others not so much

I like making someone happy with little things, words, gestures. some results of that may be called romantic.
