Because it upsets you? Because it's not strictly grammatically correct? I don't care. It effectively conveys what I was meaning to say, and obviously it was not meant to be taken "literally." Everyone understood what I meant. This is an internet forum, not a published book or a cover letter or some other third thing where proper grammar is essential. It's an acceptable vernacular phrase.

Language evolves. It happens. Get over it.
