Both were kind of bleh.

I had fresh octopus at a sushi bar, and it was actually really nice. It reminded me of crab. I also had it in some kind of weirdo, cold, tomato-based soup in Mexico. It was served in a sundae glass, with a long spoon. No one told me what it was. Surprise! Visible suckers!

I some fried alligator in Florida once, and that was actually pretty good. It was like chicken but kind of fishy too ...

I've had that too, and my opinion is exactly the same.
