Huge, well-established companies work with all kinds of programs, and the vast majority of them work best with IE. Integrating all of these systems with updates to programs - or changing to new programs - is an enormous and very difficult job. It's usually not worth the cost. (This was explained to me by one of the IS guys at my company.)
