At least, if it's the hallway of an actual house where people enter with dirty shoes and all - in an apartment building it's somewhat different, and of course if it's a hallway on a different level of the house it works too.
Toilet room, bathrooms, and other rooms that get wet & possibly icky dirty need to have something like lino or tiles.
If you have little children or other reasons why missing might be a frequent occurrence, okay. Otherwise, I don't see it being much of a point. I mean, I don't think I'd put carpet in them if it was up to me, but it wouldn't particularly bother me either.
Ew! Anyway, I'm sorry, but as careful as anyone is, there will always be parties and people will always miss a little. Not to mention projectile pukage, which is completely uncontrollable! Also, it's not like you can easily get a vacuum behind a toilet, unlike a mop.
