There are those to whom volunteering to man a one-way expedition to Mars, to research, discover, and build for the future, would not be an act of choosing death over life but of choosing adventure, research, and a mission to dedicate one's life to.

That isn't to say that such a mission wouldn't cause those who would go to struggle with depression and other maladies that can be caused by isolation and living and working in the most extreme conditions, where a mistake can be fatal.
