In general, I think that's true, but it's on a monthly basis. If you use it that month (and with the 3G being active and on, it's hard NOT to at least once), I think you get hit with the base charge which from what I know is $20/month. If you then exceed 1GB in that month, you get charged more. That's the way I understand it, but I don't deal with the billing end of our VZW contract--I just get to play with the toys.

So if he's got the 3G device, is it easy to turn it off and only turn it on intentionally if he needs it? Or if he's got the MiFi, he'd have to have that device with him and have it on, he's not going to accidentally use 3G right? This might be another consideration in favor of the MiFi option...



I don't know if you can turn off the cell radio in the TAB. I haven't tried that. If I get a chance, I'll look.
