... without coming down and dealing with the nasty stomach cramps. Joel Send a noteboard - 02/12/2010 09:49:06 PM
Bah! Having read the exchange between Darth Katie and Lady Lorraine below I'm no longer nearly as impressed, sorry. Just another black smoker, IMHO, and not even that if it only started replacing phosphorous with arsenic under lab conditions; at least the smokers are natural. I mean, OK, it's cool that biologists were able to make an existing organism adapt so radically, and at the level of its DNA, but that's not nearly as impressive as a extraterrestrial life or even the completely new form of life this was billed as. It's not extraterrestrial and it's not new; it's just a freak grown in a test tube. If there are scientists on Ganymede or some place conducing biology experiments in a lab then, sure, maybe something like this exists there; otherwise I won't hold my breath.

I really didn't understand that, either. - 04/12/2010 10:44:51 AM 726 Views
So, apparently, this bacteria doesn't use arsneic for its DNA in its natural state? - 02/12/2010 08:06:02 PM 588 Views
While awesome, it's a bit of a problem. - 02/12/2010 09:04:22 PM 609 Views
