100% true. For example, we pick spinners hoping they'd be the next Shane Warne, and then drop them after one poor test. There will NEVER be another Shane Warne (sorry to all you Graham Swann fans out there :P )


It does make me wonder if part of Warne's legacy will be that Australia will take years to develop a good spinner, having left such a huge standard to live up to. The selectors and media do need to face up to the fact that anyone is going to fall short - they need to forget about Warne and instead of trying to find a young Warne just work out if there is a spinner good enough to be picked or if they are better off getting a decent non-spinner instead until there is.
