If you unfriend people, it is likely they will start to see you in the "suggested friends" section that was on the upper right side (position may have changed since the update). If they see you there, they may try to friend you again. Of course, if you take your advice, the insults should be enough to keep the masses at bay.

I think it's nicer, and those aren't the same thing. It's no more cowardly than it is to accept the friend requests from those people you'd rather not "friend" in the first place (obligatory for whatever reason). It's like smiling politely at the crashing bore who won't stop talking to you at your partner's work event when all you want to do is kick them in the nuts and run away.
I also think that "suggested friends" thing has gotten me into trouble, because I think I've sent multiple friend requests to a few people who I had forgotten I'd sent one to in the first place. Now I'm "that girl"...you know, the one who doesn't take the hint
I should be able to track whom I've sent them to, damnit!
If you are from Betelgeuse, please have one of your Earth friends read what I've written before you respond. Or try concentrating harder.
