My parents did want the best for me, but they didn't exactly coddle me. So I did get my share of cuts and scrapes while running around and playing growing up, I did get bad grades occaisionally (still do every now and then, in college, though it still doesn't feel great), didn't take santizer to high school with me, etc. What some parents do now are just horrible.

You win some, you lose some, but "winning" in the largest sense is as much about knowing how to deal with the latter as how to achieve the former.
