Bin Laden is better dead and a martyr than alive and planning attacks. Phelps is better off dead (full stop). Usually, the only "martyrs" that are effective in rallying people are popular ones that embody good things, like Neda in Iran (and even then, her death didn't lead to good changes).
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
