why a universal health care system in the U.S. is viewed as such a bad thing? At least, this is what I've come to understand through various sources...


No choice healthcare really does have some terrible draw backs. Waiting times for even simple procedures are getting worse and worse, and since there is no way to use any alternative, everyone is stuck with really bad socialized healthcare.
All good things come to those who wait.
