Personally I can't stand the man.
He's going a tad too far in the other direction on this one, rushing to defend Mubarak unconditionally for some pretty asinine (and insane) reasons, which is as ridiculous (and dangerous) as the people rushing to embrace the protesters simply for wanting Mubarak gone. Mao wanted Chiang gone, too, and Chiang was an vicious, brutal SOB; that didn't make Mao any less one, and the fact he elevated China to a superpower only makes the ADDITIONAL fact things got much worse for the Chinese people that much more inexcusable.
