1) Is this going to be your first laptop? If no what are things you didn't like about your last laptop?
No, the one I have now is just old. The fan is kinda loud, and it's gotten kinda slow.2) You said this was for school work, are you planning to take it to class?
No. I'm planning on doing research online, writing reports, and probably doing some spreadsheet/powerpoint work.3) Go to a computer store and look at the size of the laptops, type on them, pick them up and feel the weight, what screen size of laptop do you prefer?
I'll have to go out and do it.4) How long of battery life do you want out of the laptop when you are not plugged into the wall?
Probably a couple hours at least.5) You mention school work, most laptops are fast enough to achieve this, are you going to be doing anything else with the laptop? Such as watching videos or playing games? If you are playing games what type of games do you play for there is a wide variety of games and they have a large diversity on the requirements on the computer?
I do watch things on my computer now, including DVD's and online games games occasionally (usually NES/SNES stuff). So I probably will use the new one for that if it has a DVD drive.6) How much do you want to spend?
That is it for now.
I'm not going to disclose my budget online, but I will say that I want to at least get a halfway decent computer.
That is it for now.

Toshiba Satellite laptops start at about $330. Fairly sturdy and reliable.
