He hired foreign mercenaries to fire on his own people? That is one of the more screwed up things I have heard a world leader doing in some time. Knowing nothing else about him I would say he has to leave for that alone.

Though keep in mind that both the things in my subject line and the foreign mercenaries are, at the moment, not proven - it's evidently very hard to get reliable reports of what is going on in Libya.

Qaddafi is such a clown and does so many bizarre things that one could easily forget that behind all the hilarious stuff and insanity is a violent dictator who has treated his people horribly. But it's more fun to report about giant tents, Ukrainian nurse mistresses and all-female-virgin bodyguards than to write in-depth articles about how he has ruined Libya, I suppose.
