But I can make a picture of it in my mind none the less.

I think it has to do with a lot of "patting on the head" and counceling that is only focused on improving the self-image of ppl. This combined with a growing distrust of authority that goes so far as that people no longer accept any criticism because "who are you to tell me what to do?"

I should go and watch the shows someday though
